Essie - DJ Play That Song

Hi everyone! Today I just have a really quick post for you. I found my photos of this polish, Essie DJ Play That Song on my computer and realised I never posted it here. I did post a pic on IG though

DJ Play That Song is from the 2013 neon collection described by Essie as the jam-iest neon plum. As you might know I'm a huge purple fan and this red-toned bright is exactly my cup of tea. I feel like it pulls quite pink/magenta on me but that's not a bad thing!

Essie DJ Play That Song

I don't remember how many coats I used unfortunately but I think its 2 or 3 plus topcoat. The texture is somewhat of a crelly though. I didn't use a white base even though I know some bloggers swatched over white. I found this really pretty alone.

Did you pick up any of this collection when they came out?

Elevation Polish Purple-Blotch Basslet & OPI Snow Globetrotter

Hi everyone! Today I wanted to share a simple mani I wore on Valentine's Day.

My husband and I don't celebrate Valentine's Day but I loved seeing everyone wearing pink and girly manis so I decided to too!

Elevation Polish Purple-Blotch Basslet & OPI Snow Globetrotter

I recently got this lovely polish from Elevation Polish called Purple-Blotch Basslet. I'm afraid this one is a prototype and was a gift with purchase in January so it is no longer available. It is a prototype for the core polish Purple Queen Anthias though so if you like the colour, check that one out for sure!

Purple-Blotch Basslet is a stunning rich shimmery magenta with blue/purple shimmer and an excellent formula. I used 2 coats.

Elevation Polish Purple-Blotch Basslet & OPI Snow Globetrotter

I then added OPI Snow Globetrotter, a white and iridescent glitter topper from the Gwen Stefani Holiday collection. I loved swatches of this topper over various colours and just had to have it. I wasn't disappointed. It's really pretty and quite unique I think with the really large white glitters. I did have to fish a little for those but on the whole it applied well.

I like how the white pops over the pink and the result is very girly. What do you think of it? Have you tried this OPI? What colours do you like it over best?

Superficially Colorful Lacquer Shamrockin' Collection for St Patrick's Day

Press Sample/Review

Hi everyone! Today I have a the upcoming Shamrockin' Collection from Superficially Colorful Lacquer to show you! As you might expect for a St Patrick's Day collection, this is a collection based on the colour green in a variety of shades and finishes.

Here is Jin's description of her collection:
As you know, shamrocks are the young sprigs of clover that symbolize St. Patrick’s Day. In Irish slang, a Sham is a friend, mate, dude.. And according to the Urban Dictionary Shamrocking has several meanings but my favorite is yelling out loud and crying when you lose at a game you suck horribly at.

So this is my collection: a play on shades, finishes and words based on Irish slang. (definitions were taken from several Irish slang dictionaries).

So here goes! You'll find Jin's description in green with each swatch.

Stouting
Definition: the action of drinking Stout (a term that covers the range of drinks such as Guinness, Beamish, Murphy's...) and getting very drunk.
Very dark forest green holographic polish that is as dark as the Irish beer.

Superficially Colorful Lacquer - Stouting

2 coats plus topcoat. This is my favourite of the collection and it was almost a one-coater for me! I love this shade of green. So deep and luxurious. Formula and application were really great.

Boxing the Fox
Definition: Robbing an orchard.
A silvery green holographic polish that is like an orchard worth robbing.

Superficially Colorful Lacquer -Boxing the Fox

2 coats plus topcoat. This is a lovely delicate holo and I can see myself wearing it a lot this summer. Formula and application were good. Nothing to report.

Stop the Lights!
Definition: An expression of incredulity or astonishment.
A base of golden green flakies with green hex glitter in different sizes. It can be a topper but it can also be worn in 2-3 coats on its own - stop the lights! Really? - Yup!

Superficially Colorful Lacquer -Stop the Lights!

1 coat over Stouting plus topcoat. I chose to layer this to really bring out the gold flakies. I love this combination. Formula and application were great. I didn't need to fish at all and it is packed full of gold flakes! I think this would look great over a large variety of base colours.

Acting the Maggot
Definition: Playing the fool, acting annoyingly stupid.
A squishy medium green jelly polish with holographic microglitter. The glitter is actually turquoise but the green makes it reflect more green and silver.

Superficially Colorful Lacquer -Acting the Maggot

2 coats plus topcoat. Application and formula were good. This is so squishy and juicy looking!

This is a really fun collection for St Patrick's Day. I think with the variety of shades and finishes there is something for everyone. I'm already planning to wear Stouting again very soon!

Superficially Colorful Lacquer - Foolish Heart (thermal)

Hi everyone! Today I have a stunning thermal from Superficially Colorful Lacquer to show you. If you have read my blog for a while you might know that I am a huge fan of Jin's thermal polishes! They are so pretty and so reactive!

This one is called Foolish Heart from Jin's Troubled Love Valentine's collection. This polish is inspired by the song I Was a Fool by Tegan and Sara.

Superficially Colorful Lacquer - Foolish Heart

This is a shimmery thermal which changes from a dark mulberry crimson shade when cold to a sienna orange-red when warm.

Superficially Colorful Lacquer - Foolish Heart - Cold

I used 2 coats of Foolish Love and as always with SCLacquer's, the formula and application were really good. I finished off with a coat of topcoat.

I ended up not doing nail art on this because it's so pretty and thermals are fun on their own!

Lacquistry InadVerdant (and one-stroke flower)

Hi everyone! Today I have another stunning polish from Lacquistry to show you. After being so in love with REDiculous (you can see my post on that stunner here), I couldn't wait to try InadVerdant, the green in Jenna's range of Amazeballs-type polishes.

I used 2 coats of InadVerdant and like REDiculous, the formula was good, a little on the thicker side and very easily opaque. The shimmer and sparkle is amazing.

For the nail art side of things, I decided to do another one-stroke accent nail, this time using green and white acrylic paints to match InadVerdant. I like how it coordinates without overpowering.

What do you think of this mani? Do you have any of Lacquistry's recently released polishes? I'm definitely obsessed!

Lacquistry REDiculous (and one-stroke flower)

Hi everyone! Today I have an amazing polish to show you. This beauty is REDiculous from Lacquistry.

You might be familiar with Amazeballs already and this is like an epic glowy red version! Jenna has seriously outdone herself with this one. I had not been as excited to get my hands on a polish in a good while! I also ordered the green, blue and purple versions of this too. I think it's safe to say I'm obsessed.

Lacquistry REDiculous & one stroke flower accent

REDiculous is really a sparkly, shimmery, metallic red and so pigmented that you can get away with ONE single coat!! I used two to be sure and out of habit but one coat was also awesome. The formula is a little on the thick side but application is easy and coverage is great.

Lacquistry REDiculous & one stroke flower accent

I wanted to do some nail art with this but always hesitate on what to do with red polish to avoid feeling festive. I decided to go with a simple accent nail so as not to cover up the gorgeousness of REDiculous. I chose to do a one-stroke flower with some little droplets and finished off with a coat of topcoat.

What do you think of this look? Do you have any of the polishes from the Amazeballs family?

Chanel Fantastic & Zoya Gilty

Hi everyone! I've got another mani from the photo vault today. I think this was actually the mani I wore on my birthday last year (in March!!). Eek!

I loved the combination though and I think it deserves a share nonetheless.

Chanel Fantastic & Zoya Gilty

I started out with 2 coats of Chanel Fantastic which is a lovely shimmery berry shade. It's an older Chanel and a bit harder to find. My lovely friend Kim from The Ides of Polish helped me get this so I'm really grateful to her. I love it, it's so me! The formula was lovely, as with most Chanel polishes in my experience.

Chanel Fantastic & Zoya Gilty

Although this was pretty alone, it was a birthday mani after all so I added some glitz with Zoya's Gilty real gold top coat. This topcoat is packed with quite large gold leaf pieces and looks stunning over any colour. The formula is great and with one coat you can get plenty of gold pieces evenly distributed onto your nails easily.I feel bad telling you that because it was a limited edition and is no longer available.

What do you think of this mani? Do you like to wear something special for your birthday?

Lacquistry Very Merry Holly Berry

Hi everyone! Today I've pulled some photos out of the vault to share with you. This mani is what I wore for NYE! Sorry it took me so long to share. I got distracted with the 13 Days of January Challenge among other things!

Lacquistry Very Merry Holly Berry over OPI Big Apple Red

So this mani came about because I needed something on my nails quickly before heading out and I asked my husband to choose something. He picked out Lacquistry Very Merry Holly Berry, a super sparkly red glitter which I chose to layer over OPI Big Apple Red. I did two coats of each and topped with topcoat to smooth it out. I'd say he chose well!!

Lacquistry Very Merry Holly Berry over OPI Big Apple Red

Verry Merry Holly Berry is so sparkly and would look great over other colours. I enjoyed the simple red look though. This mani was perfect for NYE! What do you think of it?
