Autumn Abstract

Hi everyone! I have some autumn inspired nail art for you today!

I was inspired by this manicure by one of my favourite bloggers, Pshiiit. I loved the autumn colours and decided to have a go and put my own spin on it.

I ended up wearing this manicure for a good few days and got many compliments on it. So here is how I did it.

Autumn Abstract

I started out with 2 coats of OPI My Vampire is Buff and allowed it to dry sufficiently before starting the nail art.
Next I diluted a variety of autumny coloured polishes with some nail polish remover and applied them in random brushstrokes with a flat nail art brush from the cuticle area working towards the tips of my nails. I just kept dabbing the polishes onto the nail with until you reach the desired opacity and mix of colours.  The colours I used are Kiko 280 (orange), Kiko 355 (yellow), Elevation Polish Alpine Heights (Carlit) and OPI Big Apple Red.

When these polishes had dried, I applied a dabbed, sparse coat of A England And The Moonbeams... to add sparkle and depth. This polish is amazing and really looks good over any colour! I love it. I finished off this design with a coat of topcoat.

Autumn Abstract

What do you think of this nail art? Do you like autumn colours too?

A-England polishes can be purchased from the A-England website for those of you in the UK and various other retailers (see the complete list here).

Joby Nail Stickers from Overall Beauty - Review

Press Sample/Review

Hi everyone! Today I have a slightly different sort of post for you today about some Joby nail art stickers from Overall Beauty that I tried out recently.

These stickers come on little cards and all you do is peel them off, stick them to your nails and finish with topcoat!

So here are the manicures I created to try them out. I'll let you know what I thought of the stickers overall at the end of the post.

Koi Fish
As my base for these Koi Fish stickers, I used Elevation Polish Pointless Forest 2. The jelly formula and iridescent glitter pieces help to create the idea of a pond.

Peacock Feathers
I started out this manicure in peacock inspired colours with Essie Turquoise & Caicos and a glitter gradient of China Glaze Angel Wings on the tips.

Blue Snowflakes
To match the blue snowflakes, I used a base of Sinful Colors Snow Me White and sponged Girly Bits Off the Scale on the tips.

Cat
To go with the pink and black colour scheme of these stickers, I chose OPI Mod About You, a pale pink creme.

It's Baby Time
I paired these stickers with Alter Ego Mother Hen which is a light pink polish full of fine pink and blue glitter, perfect to go with these pink and blue stickers!

Overall I found these stickers very easy to use. They are a good way to wear nail art if you either don't do nail art yourself or just don't have time. They peeled off the sheets easily though the snowflakes were a little trickier. I like the hint of glitter in them too. They smoothed out well with topcoat with the exception of the snowflake ones which lifted a tiny bit for me. I'm sure maybe pressing them down harder and maybe using a thicker fast drying topcoat would avoid this.

The stickers I tried all retail for 2.95 USD per sheet of at least 25 stickers. You can definitely create a few manicures from one sheet. I think these would also be cute for accent nails.

Joby nail stickers are available at Overall Beauty

Elevation Polish Hinglajgarh Forest with Freehand Tropical Flowers

Hi everyone! Today I have a sort of summery manicure for you. Sorry for that if you're into the autumn manis and dark colours right now but this one got stuck in the vault and I like it too much to leave it there and not share it with you!

I did this mani back when I received the Elevation Polish Forest collection when it came out in July. I was immediately drawn to Hinglajgarh Forest and inspired to do something bright and fun.

Elevation Polish Hinglajgarh Forest & Freehand Tropical Flowers

I started out with 2 coats of Hinglajgarh Forest which is a light grass green holographic polish with a low density linear holographic effect. I really like holos like this. They're interesting without being totally in your face and are so lovely to wear with nail art. The formula and application were really lovely, as always with Elevation in my experience.

I used acrylic paints and a fine detail brush to add the flowers and leaves and finished everything off with a coat of topcoat.

I really loved how this mani turned out and wore it for a good while. I'm just not sure why I didn't get around to sharing it sooner! What do you think? Did you pick up any of the Forest Collection?

Alter Ego Nail Enamel - Home For The 2014 Holidays Collection - Swatches and Review

Press Sample/Review

Hi everyone! I have a swatch post for you today. This is the Home for the 2014 Holidays Collection from Alter Ego.

This collection is a nice mix of glitter and shimmer polishes. Each polish, like all Alter Egos, dries to a satin matte finish so you can choose whether to wear them matte or add topcoat.

So here goes! For each polish i'll provide Cynthia's description of the shade and then add my notes about it.

Family Friend Forever
Mother Hen took this person under her wing before either one of them was old enough to remember meeting up! Family Friend Forever knows all the family secrets, but because of her loyalty, she doesn't tell a soul. She's at every gathering, every holiday table and no one in the family thinks there is anything wrong with her being in annual family photos! A true blue with a fabulous shimmer.

I used 2 coats of this one. It's a fabulous bright blue with lovely shimmer. No issues with formula or application.

Bosom Buddy
If you weren't related by birth to this gal she'd be your Bosom Buddy anyway! She's always got your back, always taking your side, will go anywhere with you at the drop of a hat no matter where. A rusty red with a gorgeous shimmer.

I used 2 coats of Bosom Buddy. This is a gorgeous Rusty Red. No issues with formula or application. My favourite of the collection and perfect for autumn/winter.

Big Sister
My only sibling, my Big Sister, came to visit recently, it's a 2+ hour drive. She has never been into enamels as much as I have but she said "I have a vision". I gave her some colors to look over & she shouted "these are it"! Bright, vibrant, colorful-just like she is:) Medium size gold & metallic fuschia hex glitters. Take note Colorants do settle upon standing. A high gloss topcoat can bring out subtleties and variants to the colorant.

Alter Ego - Big Sister - with topcoat

I used 1 coat of Big Sister over 2 thin coats of Essie BBF (a transparent nude). This is pretty over a light colour but I think it would be lovely over a dark one too. Application was easy and I didn't have to fish for glitter at all. No issues with formula.

Mother Hen
Boy or girl, 2 feet, 4 feet or no feet, if Mother Hen takes you under her wing you're there for life! You can count on a hot meal, a place to sleep and while she may take your side she'll also smack you upside the head if the problem was your fault, then figure out a way to help you recitfy the situation! Pink and blue matte super fine glitter, you may get complete coverage with two or 3 coats.

Alter Ego - Mother Hen - without topcoat

Alter Ego - Mother Hen - with topcoat

I used 3 thin coats of Mother Hen. This is a really unique polish with a glossy pink base and the tiniest glitter! It makes me think of babies and baby showers with the pink and blue combination. No issues with formula or application.

Greatest Gramma
She's always adored you and is the best cook and baker in the world. She was as thrilled to receive your fistful of dandelions and construction paper valentines as if you purchased the finest roses and candy filled heart-this makes her the Greatest Gramma ever! The fine rainbow glitter in the base is the sparkle in her eye whenever she sees you.

Alter Ego - Greatest Gramma - with topcoat

Cynthia recommends turning the bottle upside down before use to make it easier to get the large glitters out of this one as they are a little heavy and tend to sink a bit.
I used one coat over 2 coats of Essie BBF. I fished out a few glitter pieces and placed them on my nails. I really like the sparkly base of this one and I think it would look nice over a variety of colours. I used topcoat with this one for a smoother finish.

Overall I think this is a cute collection with a fun idea behind it, as always with Alter Egos. My favourites are Family Friend Forever and Bosom Buddy. I just love the shimmer and richness of the colour in them.

These will be released next Saturday November 15th!

Alter Ego polishes can be purchased from the Alter Ego store.
You can like the brand on Facebook to keep up with news and see more swatches.

6 Harts Bad Bad Lulu Brown & Elevation Polish Cerro Torre 2

Hi everyone! Tonight I have a mani for you that I did a looooong while ago. I have so many lovely manis stuck in the vault and I have decided I need to get them out and share them anyway! I have no idea why I waited so long to post this though...

This is a simple mani with 6 Harts Bad Bad Lulu Brown and Elevation Polish Cerro Torre 2.

BBLB was a lovely gift from Courtney, the lady behind 6 Harts. I absolutely adore this polish and I swear it is the perfect rich brown creme. It's like melted chocolate in nail polish form. I have used it for plain manis, stamping and all sorts of nail art and I'm totally going to need a back-up bottle! I used 2 coats of BBLB on all nails except my ring finger. The formula and application are amazing.

6 Harts Bad Bad Lulu Brown & Elevation Polish Cerro Torre 2

For my accent nail I used 2 coats of Cerro Torre 2, a yellow leaning nude creme. This is one of my favourite Elevation polishes and I find myself reaching for it all the time. You can see another mani with it here

I then added some stamping using the same two polishes on my ring and little fingernails. Both polishes stamp incredibly well. The plate I used is the Cheeky Jumbo C. I love the big designs on this plate.

I loved how this turned out and it made me think of coffee and chocolate the whole time I wore it. What do you think of it? Do you have either of these two polishes?

6 Harts polishes can be purchased from the 6 Harts Etsy store. You can like the 6 Harts Facebook page here

Understated Halloween Mani - Elevation Polish Aconcagua & Lynnderella Cauldron Drippings

Hi everyone! Today I have a quick post for you to share the manicure I wore for Halloween yesterday!

I wasn't feeling really inspired to do Halloween nail art this year so I decided just to do an understated and simple manicure in appropriate colours.

Halloween - Elevation Polish Aconcagua & Lynnderella Cauldron Drippings

I chose Elevation Polish Aconcagua as my starting point, a beautiful and vibrant orange holo with an amazing formula. I used two coats.

Then on two nails, I applied a coat of Lynnderella Cauldron Drippings from her 2011 Early Halloween collection.

I finished things off with a coat of topcoat and that's it! Simple but halloweeny!
