Elevation Polish Alpine Heights (Carlit) with A-England And the Moonbeams... and Snowflake Glitter

Hi everyone! Today I have another festive manicure for you. I haven't done many due to a lack of time recently but I was really happy with this one.

I recently got a package from my friend Jen from My Nail Polish Obsession and she had included these cute little snowflake glitter pieces with some other adorable extras (thank you Jen!).

I couldn't resist using them as soon as possible and decided to pair the gold with a rich green. I chose Elevation Polish Alpine Heights, a perfect dark green creme with a fantastic formula. I used 2 buttery coats.

Elevation Polish Alpine Heights (Carlit), A-England And The Moonbeams... with snowflake glitter accent

To add a bit of sparkle I sponged a bit of A-England's And The Moonbeams... diagonally over the tips of my nails. I love this polish and have reached for it a lot recently. It's the perfect way to add a little bit of glitz to any colour! I added a snowflake glitter to my ring fingernails as an accent, using topcoat to stick them and then seal everything. The glitter snowflakes don't lie completely flat on my nail but enough to not catch on anything or come off. I really love how simple and sophisticated they are!

What do you think of this mani? Are you still wearing festive colours and combinations?

Elevation Polish Sunset among the Palms & Ninja Yeti

Hi everyone! Tonight's post is a simple combo I wore a few weeks back and absolutely loved.

This gorgeous magenta is Sunset among the Palms from Elevation Polish, part of the Hawaiian Punch collection from November which I think is an absolutely amazing collection with colours that are right up my street.

Elevation Polish Sunset Among the Palms & Ninja Yeti

Lulu describes this one as a 'magenta/pink with a dash of holographic pigment and charcoal shift to blue flake shimmer' and I can't do much better than that! I love the depth of this polish and how interesting the flakes and shimmer make it. It is definitely way more than your average holographic!

Elevation Polish Sunset Among the Palms & Ninja Yeti

I decided to enjoy this colour with some simple embellishment. I added some glitter for an accent nail and some dots on the other nails. I used one coat of Ninja Yeti, also by Elevation, which was a gift with some orders a while back. Ninja Yeti is full of black glitter in different shapes and sizes as well as micro-glitter and shimmer. I finished off with a coat of topcoat.

I really enjoyed the simplicity of this manicure and the combination of the magenta and black. What do you think of it? Did you pick up any polishes from the Hawaiian Punch collection?

A-England Perceval with Moyou Snowflakes

Hi everyone! Today I have a festive mani to share with you! This is my first real Christmas nail art of the year and I wore it for my recent trip to Alsace and Germany to see some Christmas markets over there!

When figuring out what to wear for the weekend, I knew I wanted something very festive that immediately screamed Christmas and would match most outfits and my red coat!

I went for my trusty Perceval from A-England because I seem to be able to wear Adina's polishes for ages without any tip wear or chipping.

A-England Perceval & Moyou Snowflakes

Perceval is an amazing, glowy, metallic red and is definitely in my top few red polishes! I used two buttery coats.

I then stamped some snowflakes from the Moyou Festive 02 plate and Konad white stamping polish and finished with a coat of topcoat. My Moyou plates are a relatively recent purchase and I'm really enjoying them.

A-England Perceval & Moyou Snowflakes

I loved how this mani turned out and it was perfect for my weekend away! What do you think of it? Have you tried Moyou plates?

A-England polishes can be purchased from the A-England website for those of you in the UK and various other retailers (see the complete list here).

Colors by Llarowe - Sparkles Are a Girl's Best Friend

Hi everyone! I have a quick swatch post for you today of a polish I wore a while back. This is Colors by Llarowe Sparkles Are a Girl's Best Friend, a gorgeous hot pink holographic.

Colors by Llarowe - Sparkles Are a Girl's Best Friend

I couldn't resist ordering this because it looked so bright and fun. I wasn't disappointed. The formula and application were great. The texture is a crelly and builds to opacity nicely in two coats. I finished my mani with a coat of topcoat and ended up wearing this without nail art and just enjoying it on it's own.

Colors by Llarowe - Sparkles Are a Girl's Best Friend

If you are looking for a great pink holo, I'd definitely recommend this one! I know I will wear it time and time again.

OPI DS Glow & Lacquistry I Make it Rain (Leaves)

Hi everyone! Today I wanted to share a mani with you that I wore a few weeks ago when I fancied something really appropriate for Autumn!

This is OPI DS Glow, a gorgeous brown-gold metallic shimmer polish. It really sparkles in direct light and shifts between more brown tones to more gold and neutral ones. The formula and application are really lovely. I used 2 coats.

OPI DS Glow & Lacquistry I Make it Rain (Leaves)

To add even more sparkle, I decided to do an accent of Lacquistry's I Make it Rain (Leaves) from the 2012 (I think) fall line-up. This was part of the Sweater Weather trio along with Cornucopia and Pickin' Punkins in the Patch. This is a gorgeous glitter polish, predominantly gold tones with red and green in different sizes and shapes. It is really representative of Autumn and falling leaves and would look stunning over a variety of colours. I also think that this polish would work nicely for Christmas. I used one coat and finished off with a coat of topcoat.

OPI DS Glow & Lacquistry I Make it Rain (Leaves)

What do you think of this combo? I really like how it turned out and I enjoyed the simplicity of it.

Rescue Beauty Lounge - Motorini

Hi everyone! I have a short and sweet post for you today to share a mani I wore a few weeks back.

This stunner is Motorini by Rescue Beauty Lounge from the Italian Summer collection. This was my one must-have from this collection. I am a huge fan of Aqua Lily and Ji describes Motorini as 'her moodier, darker sister'. I can't do much better than that. This is a gorgeous 'medium base of blue/aqua has a flash of surging fuchsia shimmer'

Rescue Beauty Lounge - Motorini

I used 2 coats of Motorini and the formula was great. I ended up not doing nail art over it because I loved how it looked alone and couldn't actually decide what design I would do anyway.

Rescue Beauty Lounge - Motorini

What do you think of Motorini? Did you pick up anything from the Italian Summer collection?

Girly Bits Crunchy Leaves over OPI Hey Baby!

Hi everyone! Today I have a simple but (I think) unexpected combo for you today.

I really love Crunchy Leaves, a beautiful glitter polish from Girly Bits and a while back, I decided to try it over a pink base! I had recently purchased the OPI Gwen Stefani collection and decided to use the lovely pink creme, Hey Baby.

I started out with two coats of Hey Baby which has a great formula. It's not the most original of colours but if you are looking for a great pink creme, this could be it!

Girly Bits Cosmetics - Crunchy Leaves over OPI - Hey Baby

I then added a coat of Crunchy Leaves (which is now unfortunately retired). Pam, the genius behind Girly Bits describes this polish as a 'medium-dense glitter mix of orange, copper, brown, and red, in a sheer earthy base'. I finished off my mani with a coat of topcoat.

I love how this looks over pink and it makes a lovely change from wearing it alone or over browns or other autumn shades. What do you think of this combo?

Girly Bits polishes can be purchased from the Girly Bits Cosmetics website.

Autumn Abstract

Hi everyone! I have some autumn inspired nail art for you today!

I was inspired by this manicure by one of my favourite bloggers, Pshiiit. I loved the autumn colours and decided to have a go and put my own spin on it.

I ended up wearing this manicure for a good few days and got many compliments on it. So here is how I did it.

Autumn Abstract

I started out with 2 coats of OPI My Vampire is Buff and allowed it to dry sufficiently before starting the nail art.
Next I diluted a variety of autumny coloured polishes with some nail polish remover and applied them in random brushstrokes with a flat nail art brush from the cuticle area working towards the tips of my nails. I just kept dabbing the polishes onto the nail with until you reach the desired opacity and mix of colours.  The colours I used are Kiko 280 (orange), Kiko 355 (yellow), Elevation Polish Alpine Heights (Carlit) and OPI Big Apple Red.

When these polishes had dried, I applied a dabbed, sparse coat of A England And The Moonbeams... to add sparkle and depth. This polish is amazing and really looks good over any colour! I love it. I finished off this design with a coat of topcoat.

Autumn Abstract

What do you think of this nail art? Do you like autumn colours too?

Joby Nail Stickers from Overall Beauty - Review

Press Sample/Review

Hi everyone! Today I have a slightly different sort of post for you today about some Joby nail art stickers from Overall Beauty that I tried out recently.

These stickers come on little cards and all you do is peel them off, stick them to your nails and finish with topcoat!

So here are the manicures I created to try them out. I'll let you know what I thought of the stickers overall at the end of the post.

Koi Fish
As my base for these Koi Fish stickers, I used Elevation Polish Pointless Forest 2. The jelly formula and iridescent glitter pieces help to create the idea of a pond.

Koi Fish nail stickers over Elevation Polish Pointless Forest 2

Peacock Feathers
I started out this manicure in peacock inspired colours with Essie Turquoise & Caicos and a glitter gradient of China Glaze Angel Wings on the tips.

Peacock Feather nail stickers over Essie Turquoise & Caicos and China Glaze Angel Wings

Blue Snowflakes
To match the blue snowflakes, I used a base of Sinful Colors Snow Me White and sponged Girly Bits Off the Scale on the tips.

Blue Snowflake nail stickers over Sinful Colors Snow Me White & Girly Bits Off The Scale

Cat
To go with the pink and black colour scheme of these stickers, I chose OPI Mod About You, a pale pink creme.

It's Baby Time
I paired these stickers with Alter Ego Mother Hen which is a light pink polish full of fine pink and blue glitter, perfect to go with these pink and blue stickers!

It's Baby Time nail stickers over Alter Ego Mother Hen

Overall I found these stickers very easy to use. They are a good way to wear nail art if you either don't do nail art yourself or just don't have time. They peeled off the sheets easily though the snowflakes were a little trickier. I like the hint of glitter in them too. They smoothed out well with topcoat with the exception of the snowflake ones which lifted a tiny bit for me. I'm sure maybe pressing them down harder and maybe using a thicker fast drying topcoat would avoid this.

The stickers I tried all retail for 2.95 USD per sheet of at least 25 stickers. You can definitely create a few manicures from one sheet. I think these would also be cute for accent nails.

Joby nail stickers are available at Overall Beauty

Elevation Polish Hinglajgarh Forest with Freehand Tropical Flowers

Hi everyone! Today I have a sort of summery manicure for you. Sorry for that if you're into the autumn manis and dark colours right now but this one got stuck in the vault and I like it too much to leave it there and not share it with you!

I did this mani back when I received the Elevation Polish Forest collection when it came out in July. I was immediately drawn to Hinglajgarh Forest and inspired to do something bright and fun.

Elevation Polish Hinglajgarh Forest & Freehand Tropical Flowers

I started out with 2 coats of Hinglajgarh Forest which is a light grass green holographic polish with a low density linear holographic effect. I really like holos like this. They're interesting without being totally in your face and are so lovely to wear with nail art. The formula and application were really lovely, as always with Elevation in my experience.

I used acrylic paints and a fine detail brush to add the flowers and leaves and finished everything off with a coat of topcoat.

Elevation Polish Hinglajgarh Forest & Freehand Tropical Flowers

I really loved how this mani turned out and wore it for a good while. I'm just not sure why I didn't get around to sharing it sooner! What do you think? Did you pick up any of the Forest Collection?

Alter Ego Nail Enamel - Home For The 2014 Holidays Collection - Swatches and Review

Press Sample/Review

Hi everyone! I have a swatch post for you today. This is the Home for the 2014 Holidays Collection from Alter Ego.

This collection is a nice mix of glitter and shimmer polishes. Each polish, like all Alter Egos, dries to a satin matte finish so you can choose whether to wear them matte or add topcoat.

So here goes! For each polish i'll provide Cynthia's description of the shade and then add my notes about it.

Family Friend Forever
Mother Hen took this person under her wing before either one of them was old enough to remember meeting up! Family Friend Forever knows all the family secrets, but because of her loyalty, she doesn't tell a soul. She's at every gathering, every holiday table and no one in the family thinks there is anything wrong with her being in annual family photos! A true blue with a fabulous shimmer.

Alter Ego - Family Friend Forever - without topcoat

Alter Ego - Family Friend Forever - without topcoat

I used 2 coats of this one. It's a fabulous bright blue with lovely shimmer. No issues with formula or application.

Bosom Buddy
If you weren't related by birth to this gal she'd be your Bosom Buddy anyway! She's always got your back, always taking your side, will go anywhere with you at the drop of a hat no matter where. A rusty red with a gorgeous shimmer.

Alter Ego - Bosom Buddy - without topcoat

Alter Ego - Bosom Buddy - with topcoat

I used 2 coats of Bosom Buddy. This is a gorgeous Rusty Red. No issues with formula or application. My favourite of the collection and perfect for autumn/winter.

Big Sister
My only sibling, my Big Sister, came to visit recently, it's a 2+ hour drive. She has never been into enamels as much as I have but she said "I have a vision". I gave her some colors to look over & she shouted "these are it"! Bright, vibrant, colorful-just like she is:) Medium size gold & metallic fuschia hex glitters. Take note Colorants do settle upon standing. A high gloss topcoat can bring out subtleties and variants to the colorant.

Alter Ego - Big Sister - without topcoat

Alter Ego - Big Sister - with topcoat

I used 1 coat of Big Sister over 2 thin coats of Essie BBF (a transparent nude). This is pretty over a light colour but I think it would be lovely over a dark one too. Application was easy and I didn't have to fish for glitter at all. No issues with formula.

Mother Hen
Boy or girl, 2 feet, 4 feet or no feet, if Mother Hen takes you under her wing you're there for life! You can count on a hot meal, a place to sleep and while she may take your side she'll also smack you upside the head if the problem was your fault, then figure out a way to help you recitfy the situation! Pink and blue matte super fine glitter, you may get complete coverage with two or 3 coats.

Alter Ego - Mother Hen - without topcoat

Alter Ego - Mother Hen - with topcoat

I used 3 thin coats of Mother Hen. This is a really unique polish with a glossy pink base and the tiniest glitter! It makes me think of babies and baby showers with the pink and blue combination. No issues with formula or application.

Greatest Gramma
She's always adored you and is the best cook and baker in the world. She was as thrilled to receive your fistful of dandelions and construction paper valentines as if you purchased the finest roses and candy filled heart-this makes her the Greatest Gramma ever! The fine rainbow glitter in the base is the sparkle in her eye whenever she sees you.

Alter Ego - Greatest Gramma - with topcoat

Cynthia recommends turning the bottle upside down before use to make it easier to get the large glitters out of this one as they are a little heavy and tend to sink a bit.
I used one coat over 2 coats of Essie BBF. I fished out a few glitter pieces and placed them on my nails. I really like the sparkly base of this one and I think it would look nice over a variety of colours. I used topcoat with this one for a smoother finish.

Overall I think this is a cute collection with a fun idea behind it, as always with Alter Egos. My favourites are Family Friend Forever and Bosom Buddy. I just love the shimmer and richness of the colour in them.

These will be released next Saturday November 15th!

Alter Ego polishes can be purchased from the Alter Ego store.

6 Harts Bad Bad Lulu Brown & Elevation Polish Cerro Torre 2

Hi everyone! Tonight I have a mani for you that I did a looooong while ago. I have so many lovely manis stuck in the vault and I have decided I need to get them out and share them anyway! I have no idea why I waited so long to post this though...

This is a simple mani with 6 Harts Bad Bad Lulu Brown and Elevation Polish Cerro Torre 2.

BBLB was a lovely gift from Courtney, the lady behind 6 Harts. I absolutely adore this polish and I swear it is the perfect rich brown creme. It's like melted chocolate in nail polish form. I have used it for plain manis, stamping and all sorts of nail art and I'm totally going to need a back-up bottle! I used 2 coats of BBLB on all nails except my ring finger. The formula and application are amazing.

6 Harts Bad Bad Lulu Brown & Elevation Polish Cerro Torre 2

For my accent nail I used 2 coats of Cerro Torre 2, a yellow leaning nude creme. This is one of my favourite Elevation polishes and I find myself reaching for it all the time. You can see another mani with it here

I then added some stamping using the same two polishes on my ring and little fingernails. Both polishes stamp incredibly well. The plate I used is the Cheeky Jumbo C. I love the big designs on this plate.

6 Harts Bad Bad Lulu Brown & Elevation Polish Cerro Torre 2

I loved how this turned out and it made me think of coffee and chocolate the whole time I wore it. What do you think of it? Do you have either of these two polishes?

Understated Halloween Mani - Elevation Polish Aconcagua & Lynnderella Cauldron Drippings

Hi everyone! Today I have a quick post for you to share the manicure I wore for Halloween yesterday!

I wasn't feeling really inspired to do Halloween nail art this year so I decided just to do an understated and simple manicure in appropriate colours.

Halloween - Elevation Polish Aconcagua & Lynnderella Cauldron Drippings

I chose Elevation Polish Aconcagua as my starting point, a beautiful and vibrant orange holo with an amazing formula. I used two coats.

Then on two nails, I applied a coat of Lynnderella Cauldron Drippings from her 2011 Early Halloween collection.

Halloween - Elevation Polish Aconcagua & Lynnderella Cauldron Drippings

I finished things off with a coat of topcoat and that's it! Simple but halloweeny!

What did you wear for Halloween?

Happy Birthday Béné! (I'm A Nail Art Addict) - Moi aussi je suis une addict!

Hi everyone! Today I have a special post today (along with some other lovely bloggers) to wish a Happy Birthday to my friend Bénédicte a.k.a. I'm A Nail Art Addict (I'm Anaa!).

Bénédicte is an awesome friend and nail artist! I have followed her blog for a long time and love her swatches and nail art!

Being a fellow nail art addict I have decided to recreate one of my favourite manicures Béné has done on her blog! Like her, I am a HUGE Elevation Polish fan and I really loved this manicure she did back in August 2013 featuring Elevation Polish Avalanche.

In her manicure Bénédicte used Agnès b. Swimming blue, Kiko 295 Cerulean Blue and Kiko 340 Light Blue. As I don't own those polishes I used some of other blue cremes to create a similar look.

Blue Gradient & Elevation Polish Avalanche

I chose Zoya Phoebe, Essie Avenue Maintain and Sinful Colors Sugar Rush and used a sponge to gradient over a base coat of the Zoya.

I then topped things off with Elevation Polish Avalanche and a coat of topcoat.

Blue Gradient & Elevation Polish Avalanche

I love this manicure, thanks for the inspiration Bénédicte! Have a very Happy Birthday!

Elevation polishes can be purchased from the Elevation Polish store and Llarowe.
Zoya polishes can be purchased from the Zoya website
Sinful Colors and Essie can be purchased from various retailers.

The Lacquer Legion - After Dark - Bats in a Night Sky

Hi everyone! It's Lacquer Legion time again!

This month's theme is 'After Dark' (#LLAfterDark). This month's theme is very appropriate for Halloween inspired designs so I decided to go along that route.

However I wanted to avoid the typical black and orange combo. Don't get me wrong, I love those but I was really thinking more along the lines of darkness and night-time. I decided to centre my manicure around a dark, night idea featuring something we usually only see after dark, bats!
I also thought it would be fun to do a manicure which would look good 'After Dark' so I decided to incorporate some glow in the dark polish!

The Lacquer Legion - After Dark - Pahlish Over the Rhone (Bespoke Batch), Alter Ego Curses! Foiled Again & Sonnetarium Supernatural

So this is how I did it. I started out with 2 coats of Pahlish Over the Rhone (Bespoke Batch) which reminds me of a dark night sky. I sponged a little bit of Alter Ego Curses! Foiled Again onto the middle of each nail. I then used 2 coats of Sonnetarium Supernatural topcoat (which glows blue in the dark) before stamping some bats from my BM-213 plate with black Konad polish. I finished with a normal topcoat.

Here is (sort of) how it looked in the dark. I say sort of, because I am not an expert at photographing glow in the dark polishes. Believe me, they glowed more and looked so much cooler in real life.

Hi everyone! Today I have a stunning polish to show you! This is Chanel Sweet Star, a limited edition polish for Vogue Fashion Night Out 2014.

This is a stunning metallic multichrome polish which shifts between silver, grey, green and aubergine depending on the light and angle.

Chanel Sweet Star - Vogue Fashion Night Out 2014

I used 2 coats of Sweet Star and as with all my Chanel polishes, I had no issues with formula or application. Both were absolute perfection.

Sold On Gold
This is a beautiful yellow-gold shimmer polish, with a jelly type texture. I used 3 coats of Sold On Gold for opacity. Formula and application were really good. Like all Alter Ego polishes, this one dries to a satin matte finish. It is pretty both with and without topcoat.

Alter Ego - Sold On Gold - Gloss48 Duo

Alter Ego - Sold On Gold - Gloss48 Duo

Rows Her Boat
This is a beautiful blue-leaning teal which is absolutely packed with golden shimmer and flecks. This polish really just glows! I used 2 coats of Rows Her Boat. The formula was a bit on the thick side and I found it useful to shake my bottle a few times during application and allow the first coat to completely dry before applying the second. The second coat evened everything out nicely. I chose to wear this one with topcoat as it really brings out the shimmer!

Alter Ego - Rows Her Boat - Gloss48 Duo

This duo is exclusive to Gloss48.com and will be launching on Wednesday October 29th at 11am EST. For the first week, the duo will be priced at $14 before going back to the regular price of $17. New Gloss48 members get $10 off their first order of $30 or more.
