Theme Week - Japanese - The Great Wave off Kanagawa

Hi everyone! Today is the first day of another theme week! This time the theme is Japanese and I'm so looking forward to seeing all the awesome nail art this week from all the lovely ladies participating!

(You can see the previous 'Autumn' theme week here

I'm kicking things off with some nail art based on a famous piece of Japanese artwork. The Great Wave off Kanagawa (also known as 'The Great Wave' and 'The Wave', and apparently 神奈川沖浪裏 Kanagawa-Oki Nami-Ura in Japanese) is a well-known painting by Japanese artist Hokusai.

The Great Wave off Kanagawa - Elevation Polish Darkest Storm

I think this painting is really beautiful and decided it would make a nice nail art design.

I started off my mani with 2 buttery coats of Elevation Polish Darkest Storm from the 'Naughty by Nature' collection. This seems a fitting base for the nail art based on a storm wave threatening boats off the coast of Kanagawa as Lulu tells us that the shade was 'inspired by the light beams coming down between the clouds during a storm'. Way to stick to a theme!

Darkest Storm is described by Lulu as a 'blue, near navy holographic'. This polish is possibly one of my favourite polishes in my whole collection which is really saying something. It is just gorgeous. The formula and application are perfect (2 easy coats for full opacity).

I used acrylic paints and a fine detail brush to freehand the wave design.

What do you think of this mani? Were you familiar with this painting?

Elevation polishes can be purchased from the Elevation Polish store and Llarowe
