Alter Ego Salmon Smoker & Olympic Winner

Press Sample

Hi everyone! Today I have two polishes from Alter Ego Nail Enamel to show you!

I have already swatched a gorgeous Alter Ego shade called Beach Comber Too! which you can see here

Today's polishes sent to me to review are Salmon Smoker and Olympic Winner.

Alter Ego polishes have a different base to most indie polishes. They dry matte and some settling can occur, however a quick shake and the bottles are as normal. I find them to have a bit of a thicker consistency than most other polishes but I have had no problems with the application (please see notes on application of each polish below).

First up, here is Salmon Smoker! This polish is a lovely perfect salmon colour with the type of texture and scattered holographic effect Alter Ego does so well. Here is how Cynthia describes this shade and her inspiration:
'Everyone knows this gal as a true carnivore and they are surprised to see that she is a top notch Salmon Smoker! She's got the superb skills to make sure the fish is well cooked but not overdone, ensuring that the color is absolutely perfect! Simple shimmer salmon, almost a coral.'

I used 2 coats of Salmon Smoker. As I mentioned above, the formula is a little thicker than most due to the type of base used but I find application is easy. I applied thin coats to avoid any unevenness. Salmon Smoker dries quickly and the formula is quite self leveling. You could add some polish thinner if you prefer but I was fine without it.

I love the matte finish of this polish.

I also added topcoat which really brings out the shimmer and slight scattered holographic effect.

Next up is Olympic Winner, a metallic glitter polish. Here is Cynthia's description:
'The utter absolute joy & pride to win a medal at the Olympics must be beyond words for the winners to describe! This enamel is a tribute to all winners throughout time :) Clear base with small metallic gold, silver & bronze glitters.'

This is my first glitter from Alter Ego and I really loved it.

At first, I was planning on layering this over a similar colour base polish but after testing it on a swatch wheel and seeing how opaque it was, decided to wear it alone. I was impressed with how dense the glitter is! I used two coats for full opacity. I can't wait to use this polish for nail art!

Olympic Winner dries matte which suits me, I love matte glitter! The formula is very much like the others, thicker in consistency but self leveling. I'd recommend using two thin coats and allowing the first one to totally dry before adding the second.

Here is how it looks with topcoat.
