Nude & White Lace

Hi everyone! Today I have some simple but pretty nail art to share with you. I'm currently trying out a bunch of ideas for a friends wedding next year as I'll be doing her nails. I figured testing out on me was a good way to give her some ideas and get a feel for what she likes. So this was my first test. What says 'wedding' more than lace nails?

I started out this mani with 2 coats of Essie BBF Best Boyfriend (I know I'm so predictable, if I use nude polish it is more than likely this one). It is just so perfect.

I then used Moyou Bridal 07 plate and Girly Bits White Wedding stamping polish to stamp the lace design and topped with topcoat as always.

I like the soft romantic look of these. I think I'll definitely be trying out some more lace options. What do you think of it? What do you think is the best nail art for a bride?

Delush Polish - Divas of Soul (August 2018 Polish Pickup - Musicals)

Hi everyone! Today I have my very first Delush Polish to share with you. This is Divas of Soul for Polish Pickup back in August. I don't often allow myself splurges from Polish Pickup but I couldn't resist this one (and the Girly Bits magnetic!). I love red and I don't have many magnetics. I do love the ones I have so this was a must for me. It looked more exciting than the old 'basic' magnetics which came out years ago.

I recently purchased an arc magnet from Girly Bits Cosmetics as well, with this polish in mind because it looked great on the swatches. So this was my first time using that as well. I'm pretty happy with the outcome.

Delush Polish Divas of Soul is a red/burgundy magnetic with aurora pigment, holographic flakes and shimmer which pulls gold. It was inspired by Dreamgirls for the Musicals Polish Pickup theme.

I used two coats and the arc magnet for the effect. The formula was nice. I don't have other Delush Polishes to compare with but based on this one, I'd try more from the brand. I finished with topcoat as always.

This one looks just stunning in the sun when the gold shimmer really shines through. I love the fun shift and 'movement' of a magnetic polish. This one has great pay off in that sense and the flakes and shimmer keep it super interesting. I kept looking at my nails while wearing this.

Unfortunately, as this was a PPU polish it is no longer available to purchase unless you find it for sale in a group. I'll leave the info for Delush Polish here anyway so you can check out the brand. She does have other magnetic polishes available right now!

Alter Ego White Lightning - Fan Group Exclusive October 2018

Press Sample/Review

Hi everyone! Today I have the Alter Ego October Facebook group exclusive to show you!

White Lightning is a soft white crelly with gold microflakes and microglitter and strong blue shimmer. The formula was good and as I'd expect for a light coloured crelly. I used 3 coats for good coverage, especially on my ridgy ring finger nail. No topcoat.

Cynthia has also added a new skin/handcare product to her line up. Pet & People Potion is a balm for cuticles/dry skin. It moisturises and soaks in well without leaving greasiness. I'll be putting some of this into a mini tub for my handbag for sure.

White Lightning is available now in 2 sizes and for Cynthia's regular prices 8.5ml for $4.75 and 17ml for $9.50. Don't forget to join the Alter Ego Facebook group to be able to purchase.

Pet & People Potion is also available now for $4.50.

Alter Ego - Harvest Colors Collection Swatches & Review

Today I have the Harvest Colors Fall collection from Alter Ego to show you! This is essentially a collection packed with the most autumnal colours ever, in a mix of finishes.

I'll be sharing a discount code at the end of the post as well as all the release and pricing information you'll need but let's get on to the swatches!

I Can See Your Halo is a slightly metallic gold holo. This one is pretty unique in my collection. I like how it sort of glows and shifts. I used 3 coats and no topcoat.

Don't Pesto Me is a rich green holo. The holo is more subdued in this one. The colour is very saturated. I used 3 coats, no topcoat.

Orange You Glad It's Fall is a vibrant orange holo. This one is stunning. It is bright, rich and perfect for autumn! I used 3 coats, no topcoat.

Sass Squash is a mustardy yellow holographic crelly. This is another one which is unique in my collection. I used 3 coats for opacity, no topcoat.

Moonless Night is a rich blue holo. I will warn that this one stained my nails slightly after only swatching so you will definitely want to use a basecoat! I used 2 coats.

Tin Roof Rusted is a rusty red/orange holo. Exactly the kind of colour I love for autumn. I used 2 coats, no topcoat.

Pour Me A Glass is a raspberry/burgundy holo. This one pulls a brighter pink in sunlight and more subdued burgundy colour in the shade. I used 3 coats, no topcoat.

The Harvest Colors collection retails in full size (17 ml) for $9.50 each with $1 discount for the set of 7 for $51 and in mini size (8.5 ml) for $4.75 each with 0.75 discount for the set at $28.

Alter Ego - My Own Worst Enemy Soap (Indie Pickup October 2018)

Press Sample/Review

Hi everyone! As promised in my last post, I have Alter Ego's offering for October's Indie Pickup (IPU) to show you!

Like Polish Pickup, the October theme for IPU is Villains. Like for her polish, Cynthia has created a soap inspired by inspired by Tyler Durden from Fight Club. Did you guess what it was?

My Own Worst Enemy soap is a neon pink soap exactly like the ones in the film. It comes packed in a sealed plastic bag with all the info and ingredients on the front which I find useful. No reading small print if you want to check the ingredients.

The scent is quite strong but pleasant. It is quite an earthy, masculine scent with notes of galbanum, lavender, sage, cedar and patchouli. I washed my hands with the soap to test it out and the scent transferred to my skin well without being too overwhelming after use.

The My Own Worst Enemy soaps will be available for purchase from October 19th until October 22nd along with a wide variety of products from other brands with the 'Villains' theme! There is no cap on the quantity for these.

Also, how well does it match the Alter Ego polish for Polish Pickup?! This would make a great set if you grab both, for yourself or as a gift!

Alter Ego - My Own Worst Enemy (Polish Pickup October 2018 - Villains)

Press Sample/Review

Hi everyone! I have the October Polish Pick Up Exclusive from Alter Ego for you today

The Polish Pick Up theme for October is 'Villains'. Cynthia from Alter Ego has made a polish inspired by Tyler Durden from Fight Club. The colour inspiration comes from the soap he makes.

My Own Worst Enemy is a super bright neon pink absolutely jam packed with blue-purple shimmer. You know I love a good shimmer and this one is fantastic. So in your face!

I used 2 coats of My Own Worst Enemy and the formula was lovely. Photos show the polish without topcoat. This is such a fun colour and a change from all the regular 'fall' polishes!

This beauty will be available from October 5th at 11am EST until October 8th at 11:59pm EST along with polishes from other brands with the 'Villains' theme!

I'll be posting soon with Cynthia's product for Indie Pickup (IPU) for October with the same theme. Can you guess what it might be?! Until then, here is the Polish Pickup info as usual! Enjoy!

STELLA CHROMA Fall Mattes Collection - Swatches & Review

Hi everyone! Today I have the upcoming fall collection from STELLA CHROMA to show you! I was super excited to see this collection in real life after hearing that it was a collection of mattes with shimmer and seeing the first quick photo. I wasn't disappointed.

So without further ado... on to the swatches! Pam's colour descriptions are in italics with my comments after! Be sure to check out all the info you need and a discount code at the end of the post! I photographed each shade matte (without topcoat) and then added topcoat to show you how they look both ways.

Cinnamon & Spice - 'Warm brown tones are complimented by copious amounts of pink shimmer in this matte beauty that reminds us of all of the delicious cinnamon treats that pop up in the fall! Apple dumpling, anyone?'

This is one of my favourites of the collection. The colour is so perfect for fall and exactly the kind of shade I gravitate towards for the season. I love a nice strong shimmer. I used 2 coats. The formula was fab, as I expect from Pam.

Perseids - 'The Perseids meteor shower occurs every fall, peaking in August. This matte navy harkens to the night sky and the holo flakies sparkle like stars on your nails'

My absolute favourite of this collection. The holo flakies in the matte base are just stunning and with topcoat they absolutely sparkle. Win win! This is the perfect night sky polish and so classy. I know I'll be wearing it a lot! I used 2 coats. Great formula.

Flannel & Boots - 'Our favorite flannel shirt is this gorgeous shade of teal. What says fall like flannel shirts, leggings, and boots? This lovely matte polish is highlighted with white and blue flakies

This is a beautiful shade and unique in my collection. Just bright enough but not too bright. I will enjoy wearing this for the autumn for sure. Again, stunning flakes in the matte base. I used 2 coats. Nothing to report formula-wise.

Pumpkin Everything - 'What fall collection would be complete without a perfect pumpkin orange? This is a matte medium orange with a strong green shimmer as a nod to gorgeous pumpkin vines'

The most excellent fall colour. I am not an orange fan but Pam always does them well (The Leaky Cauldron from her Knight Bus collection is a favourite of mine). This one is super unique with the strong green shimmer. I love a good contrasting shimmer and this one is fun. I used 2 coats. Formula was perfect once again.

Gala - 'Apple picking is a traditional fall activity, and this matte red stunner is bright like the skin of the sweet Gala apple!'

This colour completely wowed me once I put it on my nails. You might know that I'm a big fan of red polish. But what really got me in this one is the pink flakes which pop against the red. In some lights they look like they're almost glowing! I felt like my hands and nails looked so pretty while wearing this and after swatching, I put it on immediately as a full manicure. Formula was lovely. I used 2 coats.

You Blockhead! - 'This shimmery yellow matte was named by Mr STELLA CHROMA himself. he looked at it and said, "That's the yellow of Charlie Brown's shirt. It should be called You Blockhead!" He's totally right, isn't he?'

This polish has the perfect name. I love the shimmer in this and it makes me like yellow. I'm not generally a fan of yellow but I do make exceptions for just the right shade or something unique like this. I was really happy this one didn't give me lobster hands which is quite a feat. I imagine this will be a yellow that will look good on so many skin tones. I used 3 coats to be sure to cover my slight ridges on my ring fingernail. Yellow can be iffy like that but you could almost definitely use just two coats. I especially loved this one with topcoat. What do you prefer?

Overall, I think this is a beautiful collection. The matte finish combined with the shimmers and flakes is beautiful, especially with some of the contrasting colours. Pam has outdone herself with this collection. I'm always the girl voting shiny when friends ask whether to wear a mani matte or with topcoat, but this collection is making me rethink that a little (especially Perseids, Cinnamon & Spice and Gala!)

The collection will release Saturday, Sept 22nd at noon EST. They will be $12 per 15 mL bottle. For the first two weeks after release (until Oct 5th), the full set of 6 will be available for $64.
A portion of sales through 9/30 will be donated to this quarter's STEM organization, Girls Who Code.
